In The Event Your Heart and soul Is Focused On Reducing Your High Blood Pressure, Benicar Is Definitely The Solution

By Ddace Bojanu

Benicar , a drug which is actually a included in a group of drugs generally known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists, is suitable for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure due to clogged arteries and veins and kidney diseases in type two diabetics. Its main component is olmesartan medoxomil.

The function of these drugs are to prevent high blood pressure by stopping a certain chemical named angiotensin II in the body from constricting blood vessels and bettering blood circulation through the body. This treatment can be used by itself or together with other hypertension drugs.

This is termed to be a pro drug which means that it has to be metabolized by the patient first and therefore be changed to become a working agent in treating the problem in the patient.

A full stomach is not required in taking this, it can certainly be ingested regardless of the last time you ate food. It is administered to both adults and children from 1 to 17 years of age. It can purchased in tablet form with strengths of 4mg, 8mg, 16mg and 32mg. First dosage is 16mg once a day and subsequent doses must be between 8 to 32mg to be taken one or two times a day.

This drug is not for use by pregnant women. The physician must be informed about the pregnancy before undergoing this medication. However, if a patient discovers the pregnancy while on the treatment, she should discontinue taking it at once and have herself examined by the doctor immediately. During a pregnancy's second and third trimesters, such drugs can harm or bring death to a fetus. It should not also be taken during breastfeeding. Patients who are allergic to medicines containing sulfonamides should not take these drugs because its hydrochlorothiazide component belongs to that class of drug.

Alcohol usage must be avoided while on this treatment because it can reduce blood pressure even further and amplify the side effects involved. Salt or potassium replacements need to be steered clear from unless otherwise advised by a health professional. The reason is this drug already increases salt levels in the body and if in excess it can result in a condition which, although seldom, can cause kidney failure with symptoms being tired muscles and a sluggish heartbeat.

When a patient has been put on Benicar it can take anything from 2-6 weeks for their hypertension to stabilize, therefore regular blood pressure checks are important. It is advised that a patient continue using the medication even if they feel well because most of the time people with blood pressure problems don't feel sick.
