Using Pregnancy Pillow To Save Your Back

By Ian Tate

Someone that has not been pregnant will never understand the discomfort it sometimes brings. Because the extra weight your body is carrying and the disproportionate manner it is situated, areas of your back, hips, legs, and feet often feel incredible pain and discomfort. But you can use pregnancy pillows to support the extra weight and ease the pain. Pregnancy pillows can be used to sleep with or during the day to provide extra comfort needed.

These pregnancy pillows are designed to add support and fit on certain parts of the body. Made to fit your lower back, between your knees and thighs, stomach, or your neck are several different types of pregnancy pillows.

As you progress through the stages of pregnancy, it will be more and more difficult to get comfortable. Every way you lay causes discomfort which is why it's likely for you to have a hard time sleeping. Sleeping on your back makes you feel like you can't breathe as your stomach gets bigger but sleeping on your stomach doesn't work either. You're likely to end up on your side. However, the extra weight makes your hips hurt and you are not able to reposition very well. Good thing pregnancy pillows provide relief.

The ideal position is to lie with a pregnancy pillow behind your back and another between your thighs/knees. The pillow between your legs offers support and relieves some of the pressure on your hips, while the pillow behind your back allows you to lie back slightly when you want to reposition. A range of motion will be provided and it will also give your back a break. Instead of being restricted, you have the option to lie at almost any angle on each side.

Sitting for long periods of time also makes your joints ache when you are pregnant. Popping the feet up periodically and a using a pregnancy pillow behind the back would help this. to support the extra weight of their stomachs, some women feel relief from placing a pillow in their laps. To prevent stiffness and discomfort when driving, there are also techniques which can be used.

Available are many models of pregnancy pillows. Some are made of regular pillow materials, such as cotton or down, and other, more expensive models, are made of memory foam. Try out different kinds and take your time in order to find out which are the most comfortable for you.
